Saturday Morning Buzz

The end of the school year is just around the corner – if you can believe it! If your students aren’t already antsy with the anticipation of summer break, then it’s only a matter of time before those internal alarms start going off.

The end of the school year is a celebration, but also a great time to reflect and share in the memories of the past year. SSWAA has put together a quick list of ideas for student activities in preparation for the end of the year. Choose from one of the following, look for more, or create your own!

Create an end of year playlist

Have your students share a song that somehow relates to the past school year – be sure to have them share the reason for their choice as well. Celebrate the end of the school year by listening to these songs.

Thank you note

Have your students write a note to someone who had a positive impact on them this school year and help them address and/or deliver it.

Summer Dreams

Have your students draw a self-portrait of them living their best life during the summer – whether that’s chilling out by the pool, reading a book, or playing outside with friends. Then encourage them to write about their summer plans or what they would like to do this summer.

Six-Word Memoir

In six words have them capture the theme/feelings/essence of the year. Collect them and compile into a slide show (and BONUS if you play them with the end of the year songs).

Compliment Book/Sheet

Have students share compliments or what they like most about each other on either a one-pager or make a booklet. After all of the compliments have been completed, the student can have reminders about what their classmates and friends like most about them.
