National School Social Work Certification - October 2026 Cohort

Become a National Certified School Social Worker (NCSSW)!

NCSSW is a self-paced (asynchronous), virtual portfolio process that operates in a Cohort model.

Upon approval of your application, you will receive an email with instructions about accessing course content via SSWAAed (SSWAA's online learning management system) along with an invoice. Payment must be made in full prior to gaining access to certification course content in SSWAAed.

Candidates have one year (from Cohort start date) to complete the process.

Because National Certification is an ongoing, self-paced process, refunds are not available.

Certification is valid for three years, at which time NCSSWs must become re-certified (see 'NCSSW Re-certification' for more information). All NCSSWs must maintain SSWAA membership at the full or premiere level.

Confirm you are eligible to apply prior to submitting an application.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Earned MSW;
- Completed at least four (4) full years post-MSW as a school social worker or school social work educator in higher education (or equivalent position in districts/states with alternative school social work regulations or credentialing);
- Hold current/active licensure or certification for school social work position per state guidelines;
- Have active SSWAA membership at the Full or Premiere level

Time

This is the registration for NCSSW Cohort October 2026. Applications are accepted and reviewed July 1 through September 24, 2026. Payment invoice is sent upon program acceptance; payment due by September 30, 2026. Course materials become available in SSWAAed to approved applicants beginning October 1, 2026. Candidates have one year (until September 30, 2027) to complete the process and become a Nationally Certified School Social Worker!
