Join the School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) for our December Advocacy Roundtable as we explore the importance of building legislative relationships and strengthening advocacy efforts at the state and national levels.
This Month's Topic: Map the Power: Building Legislative Relationships Before You Need Them
Effective advocacy doesn't begin when legislation is introduced. It begins with relationships, understanding who influences decisions, and knowing how to communicate the needs of school social workers, students, and families. During this roundtable, we will discuss:
1. Mapping the Power: Identifying legislators, key stakeholders, education agencies, and community partners who influence school social work policy.
2. Building Legislative Relationships: Establishing and maintaining connections with policymakers and decision-makers throughout the year.
3. Strengthening State Advocacy Networks: Sharing practical strategies for developing relationships and increasing advocacy engagement.
4. The Gift of a Story- Holiday Advocacy Storytelling: In the spirit of the holiday season, participants will have an opportunity to share meaningful experiences that highlight the impact of school social work and explore how storytelling can strengthen advocacy efforts.
A Special Holiday Invitation!
As we close out the year, come prepared to share one "gift of impact" from your work in 2026. This could be a student success, a meaningful professional experience, an advocacy accomplishment, or a challenge that reminds us why school social work matters. Please be mindful of student and family confidentiality when sharing. Whether your state is just beginning its advocacy journey or has established legislative relationships, this roundtable is an opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and prepare for a stronger year of advocacy ahead.
