Description

From Pressure Points to Policy Power:

Understanding the System So You Know Where Your Voice Matters Most

Advocacy is not just about having passion, It’s about understanding how systems move.

This pre-training is designed to help school social workers understand how legislation moves through Congress and where advocacy has the greatest influence throughout the process.

Participants will learn:
• How bills advance through the legislative process
• Where most legislation stalls
• How strategic advocacy creates momentum for change
• What effective legislative engagement looks like before, during, and after Hill visits

During this session, participants will explore:

• How a bill becomes law
• The role of committees and cosponsors
• Where advocacy has the greatest impact
• How to strategically prepare for Hill visits
• What effective follow-up and relationship-building look like after legislative meetings

This training is especially designed for:

• First-time Legislative Institute attendees
• School social workers interested in policy and advocacy
• State affiliate leaders
• Professionals looking to strengthen their advocacy voice and strategy

Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of:
• How policy actually moves
• Where advocacy matters most
• How to move from storytelling to strategic influence

Because advocacy is not just about showing up! It’s about knowing where pressure creates movement.
