National Model 2.0 (Part 4 of 4):The Foundations of Equity Work in School Social Work Practice
Webinar Description: There is a growing consensus that persistent educational disparities can only be addressed by first understanding various factors associated with different educational outcomes among groups of students (Hanover Research, 2022). Many also argue that knowledge is not enough, more skills and deliberate actions are needed to effectively redress entrenched inequities and challenge embedded policies and unexamined practices that contribute to those educational disparities (Barton & Tan, 2020; Gorski & Swalwell, 2023). Considering the National School Social Work Practice Model 2.0’s emphasis on our Code of Ethics and education equity, this webinar will provide information to and solicit feedback from participants as a first step in the development of a proposed equity toolkit for school social work practitioners.
Learning Goals:
1. Participants will discover trend data about persistent and emerging educational disparities that exist among select student populations (e.g. students with disabilities, English Language Learners, BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, low SES students).
2. Participants will identify and define how social work standards (e.g. CSWE, SSW) and the NASW Code of Ethics’ guidance inform equity work in school settings.
3. Participants will distinguish the importance of engaged deliberate actions that advance educational equity as an essential component of school level and district level DEI initiatives.
