Webinar - School Social Workers Promoting Social Justice and Racial Equity

Tuesday, March 31, 2020 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

The SSWAA model names educational equity as one of the areas of practice for school social workers. Yet, little is known about how school social workers engage in this work and the barriers or challenges they encounter. This webinar will be focused on how to center our practice within social justice, racial equity, and decolonial frameworks throughout our institutions. In order to understand the experiences of racially minoritized students within education systems, it is integral that we understand their experiences at the institutional and historical levels to disrupt systems that perpetuate oppression. In this webinar, we will share our own research on issues of Equity, School Social Work as Nepantleras (self reflexive bridge builders, border crossers, and advocates) and the experiences of practitioners of color. We hope to create a space for dialogue with each other about the profession and what school social workers need to best serve racially minoritized students and promote social justice. This event is available for 1.0 CEU.
